Asbury Memorial Church
Orange Ribbons for a Reason

Karl Graham & Randy Canady afix ribbons on the fence to represent those killed by gun violence this year in Savannah

On Wednesday, July 1, 2015, two weeks after a mass shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC, the congregation of Asbury Memorial Church began hanging these orange ribbons on the fence. The ribbons represent the individuals who have been killed by gunfire in Savannah since January 1, 2015. The ribbons that are a lighter shade represent individuals who were under the age of 18. The ribbons remind us to pray for the family and friends of these individuals, to pray for policy makers to create common sense gun laws, and to pray for ourselves as we seek to make this a more peaceful world. Will you too, pray with us?

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

- Attributed to St. Francis of Assisi
